The House of Blue Fire is a story of two halves. The first two parts of the story are set in a spooky house. Four people find themselves in a spooky house, remembering nothing about themselves other than their greatest phobia. The Doctor doesn't actually appear until the end of the first episode. Everything about these first two episodes is brilliantly atmospheric and the performances by the guest actors are superb.The story does lose momentum a little in the third episode when we begin the reveal of what's going on before recovering a bit of steam in the final episode. The last two episodes aren't bad but they're not quite as good as the very solid beginning.
Still, the music and direction is solid throughout and the guest cast is a delight. Overall, despite being uneven, this is a very solid outing for the Seventh Doctor.
